CREEC EVALUATES SOLAR TECHNICIANS IN GULU

The adoption of solar PV products is steadily increasing in Uganda. Unfortunately untrained technicians is one of the challenges that is affecting the adoption of the solar energy in the country leaving people with negative reviews about the technology. Patrick Masendi a solar technician with CREEC on 24th February 2017 assessed some trained technicians from a 6-day PV Fundamentals and Technical Sales training that was conducted in Gulu. He also went ahead to award successful participants with certificates of merit on completion. These trainees will be better placed to conduct quality installations for their customers after undergoing a competence based training.

CREEC is also enrolling trainees in the third periodic training for solar technicians on stand-alone solar home system for individuals and institutions. The centre has the capacity to train technicians in stand-alone solar home system, site survey, sizing, electrical basics, installation, troubleshooting, rectification, repairs and maintenance after which training on hybrid systems will be enrolled which include grid tie etc.

The objective for the training is to ensure that the country has well trained technicians at all levels to help install solar systems, maintain and repair broken solar systems. This is also an opportunity to equip the youth with technical skills enabling them to create their own opportunities with a quality skill set.
