Empowering Technicians, Powering Communities: We explore the Impact of Repair and Maintenance Trainings on Communities.

A little while back, the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) held an incredible Repair & Maintenance Training at St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Institute, Hoima. The turnout was remarkable with women technicians taking the spotlight.

These women came full of energy, curiosity, and passion for eCooking technology. Their enthusiasm spoke volumes: women are ready to take the lead in the clean energy transition, bringing skills and innovation straight into their communities.

Building Skills Across Uganda

The Hoima training is just one milestone in a much bigger journey. To date, CREEC’s Repair & Maintenance Trainingshave equipped:

  • 483 technicians
  • In 23 locations across Uganda

with the practical skills to keep clean energy solutions working and sustainable.

This growing network of skilled technicians is helping communities reduce energy disruptions, increase adoption of clean cooking technologies, and sustain the benefits of renewable energy solutions long after installation.

Driving the Clean Energy Transition

Repair and maintenance capacity is a crucial yet often overlooked part of ensuring long-term impact in the clean energy sector. By building local expertise, we are not only creating jobs but also ensuring that communities can rely on modern, sustainable energy systems for years to come.

The passion, resilience, and leadership shown by women during these trainings highlight the critical role they play in advancing Uganda’s clean energy future.

Powered by Partnership

This work would not be possible without the support of our partners and funders, whose commitment to innovation, gender inclusion, and sustainable energy access continues to drive progress across Uganda. We are grateful to the MECS Programme for their support through UKAid and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) for powering this journey of skills and change.

Looking Ahead

As we begin a new week, we carry this momentum forward one community, one technician, one solution at a time. Gearing up to kickstart our next training in Luweero District starting 6th October 2025.
