Solar trainees during a practical solar installation lesson.

The course is objectively to provide a network of competent Solar photovoltaic power system designers and installers. It makes a major contribution to increased uptake of Solar photovoltaic power systems by giving customers increased confidence in the design and installation work done by the technicians. In-order to expand energy solutions country wide, the centre is carrying out trainings for solar technicians on stand-alone solar home system for individuals and institutions. The centre has trained over 300 technicians and individuals. The centre has the capacity to train technicians in stand-alone solar home system, site survey, sizing, electrical basics, installation, troubleshooting, rectification, repairs and maintenance after which training on hybrid systems will be enrolled which include grid tie and many others.

In 2018, CREEC was accredited as an assessment centre to conduct competence based assessments in line with the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework (UVQF). The objective for the solar training is to ensure that the country has well trained technicians at all levels who are in position to help install solar systems, maintain and repair broken solar systems. The centre is also breaking barriers associated with a lack of skilled personel in rural community by partnering and running trainings in off-grid communities. This is also an opportunity to equip the youth with technical skills enabling them to create their own opportunities with a quality skill set.
