Giving Technology a Second Life: CREEC’s Free Repair and Maintenance Service at REC2025

At the Renewable Energy Conference & Expo 2025 (REC2025), the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) took a hands-on approach to sustainability not just showcasing technology, but reviving it.

As part of our ongoing commitment to building a robust and reliable e-cooking ecosystem, CREEC offered a free Repair and Maintenance Service for eCooking Appliances  throughout the conference.

Over the course of the event, 25 Appliances  were examined, repaired, and restored, each one given a new lease on life. For many participants, this simple act was more than a technical service; it was a reminder that clean energy technology can be both sustainable and serviceable when supported by the right expertise.

“We realized that many users struggle not because the technology fails, but because they lack access to affordable repair and after-sales support,” shared Jimmy Agaba, Team Lead for CREEC’s E-Cooking activities. “By offering this service, we wanted to show that solutions exist and that proper maintenance can extend the life and impact of clean cooking appliances.”

This initiative was carried out with support from MECS through UKAid and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, as part of CREEC’s broader efforts to strengthen local technical capacity and build user confidence in electric cooking technologies.

Beyond the repairs, each participant received personalized guidance on safe use, cleaning, and energy-efficient operation ensuring that they could go home not only with a functional appliance but with the knowledge to use it effectively and sustainably.

The positive feedback from users reaffirmed the need for a structured and accessible repair ecosystem in Uganda’s growing electric cooking sector.

At REC2025, every repaired cooker symbolized more than restored functionality — it represented renewed trust in technology, reduced waste, and a step closer to sustainable energy access for all.
