The UNOPS Project was focused on Up-scaling Generation, Commercialization and utilization of Biomass Waste-based Green Energy sources in Uganda. Based on CREEC’s background in biogas related activities like promotion and production of biogas using biomass waste and fabrication of promotion of energy-efficient cook stoves, the centre took lead in activities relating to biogas.
The project action intended to promote activities aimed at generation, commercialization of green energy sources centered on biogas and charcoal briquettes. CREEC was also involved in training 15 biogas MSMEs, awareness creation, business modeling dissemination of biomass technologies, proposition of policy guidelines and management / coordination of project action activities. Green energy technologies such as biogas and charcoal briquettes will help replace the conventional fuels in milk cooling plants in rural areas and wood fuel in improved energy efficient cook stoves thus reducing on overall cost on energy sources in commercial milk processing and domestic energy use. The introduction and commercialization of biomass waste based green energy will reduce pressure on natural forests as the major source of wood fuel.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the action is poverty reduction through green, environmentally friendly and sustainable, economic growth
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Enhancing income generation, job creation and economy greening through
- Awareness creation with regard to biomass based green energy technologies
- Capacity building on green energy generation, commercialization and utilization
- Green energy business development and up scaling,
- Based on lesson learned and experienced gained.
