This was the central question that guided the recent stakeholder validation workshop convened by the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) to share and validate findings from an assessment of testing and verification processes for RA-PURE technologies in Uganda.
The workshop brought together regulators, standards bodies, testing laboratories, technicians, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and development partners to review the evidence and contribute their perspectives before finalizing the study recommendations.

Stakeholders from government, industry, testing laboratories, and development organizations validating findings from CREEC’s assessment of testing and verification processes for RA-PURE technologies under the Power for Food Partnership.
Through the assessment, CREEC:
✅ Conducted a desk review of the standards, testing methods, and laboratory equipment currently used to assess RA-PURE technologies.
✅ Examined the strengths and limitations of existing testing and verification processes, identifying areas that require strengthening to meet national, regional, and international benchmarks.
✅ Engaged key stakeholders across the ecosystem to understand the practical realities, challenges, and opportunities influencing quality assurance in the sector.
The discussions highlighted several recurring themes, including limited laboratory capacity, the high cost of testing, gaps in technical expertise, and the need for greater standardization of testing protocols.
At the same time, participants identified significant opportunities to strengthen the ecosystem through enhanced collaboration, capacity building, harmonized standards, improved verification systems, and stronger linkages with regional testing facilities.
The validation workshop marks an important step in ensuring that the study findings accurately reflect stakeholder experiences and priorities. The insights gathered will contribute to recommendations aimed at strengthening Uganda’s testing and verification landscape and supporting the deployment of high-quality renewable energy technologies.
As Uganda continues to advance access to sustainable energy solutions, robust testing and verification systems remain critical for building consumer confidence, protecting investments, and ensuring long-term impact.
This work is being implemented under the Power for Food Partnership, funded by the Ikea Foundation, and implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in partnership with local and international stakeholders working to strengthen productive uses of renewable energy in food systems.
