In a bid to work together to move the household solar sector forward for the benefit of all Ugandans, the Uganda Scaling Off-grid Energy (SOGE) Cross-Sector Advisory Committee was formed to take a lead in the policy, advocacy, work and comprises about 12members from diverse sectors with a stake in off-grid energy in Uganda. At present, the SOGE Cross Sector Advisory Committees includes representation from government, industry, finance, Uganda development partner, Academia and consumer interest groups. CREEC was selected as a member and the centre will contribute to the committee in the areas of standards and quality, testing, training, applied research for solar PV as well as other renewable energy technologies.
Scaling Off-Grid Energy (SOGE): Grand Challenge for Development, a USAID/Power Africa/DFID/Shell Foundation collaboration aims to accelerate growth in the off-grid energy market to provide 20million households in Sub-Saharan Africa with access to modern, affordable electricity in Uganda, the Grand Challenge builds capacity in the off-grid solar sector as a whole, spurring a vibrant market place of off-grid energy solutions that meet the needs of low-income and rural consumers. The SOGE activities are anchored under the DFID-LED Energy Africa Compact that was executed with the Government of Uganda that obliges signatories “to act as champions of action towards Global 7 and provide attention and support to facilitate progress on unleashing the solar market in Uganda.
